Ohio State football has a chance to flip a five-star recruit

After visiting the Buckeyes last week, one five-star player came away very impressed.

Coaching staffs are constantly working to flip players who are committed elsewhere. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. The Ohio State football team is hoping they can do it with one of the top recruits in the current cycle.

Dakorien Moore from Duncanville, Texas is a five-star recruit and the top receiver in the country. He has been committed to LSU since late August, but like many committed recruits, he is still visiting other schools. Last week he was on campus at Ohio State and reports say the visit went very well.

Even before he visited, longtime Ohio recruiting guru Bill Kurelic of Bucknuts felt Moore had a legitimate interest in the Buckeyes. Based on what he was told after the visit, Moore and his family were very happy and the interest level in Ohio State is high.

That’s great news, but let’s not get carried away and think Moore is ready to flip his commitment. As Kurelic points out, there is a long way to go until the early signing period in December. Keep an eye on if Ryan Day and receivers coach Brian Hartline convince Moore to make another unofficial visit like the one made last week. I don’t doubt OSU will be one of his official visits, but if he comes back for another looksee on his own, I think the Buckeyes have a real chance to flip Moore’s commitment from LSU.

What is impressive about the 5’11”, 175-pound Moore’s five-star rating is there are only 16 five-stars currently on 247Sports’ list of recruits. I don’t doubt that amount will change as we move through this recruiting cycle, but that number is usually higher. He is the number three player overall and one of only two five-star receivers. This would be nice to get after the Buckeyes lost a receiver earlier this week.

This situation is very much worth keeping an eye on, because this isn’t message-board speculation. Kurelic is one of the best in the business, so if he tells me Moore has real interest in Ohio State, I’m going to believe him.
