Ohio State football great well get a statue at the Shoe
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has had a lot of greats pass through their doors. The Buckeyes have some of the greatest players in college football history. They have seven Heisman Trophy winners to their credit as well, including the only two-time winner of the most prestigious award in college football.
That winner is running back Archie Griffin. Griffin won it back-to-back years in 1974 and 1975 while he was playing for Woody Hayes. He was one of the best players in college football history, not just Ohio State football history. He was honored with a statue at the Rose Bowl on Saturday.
The Rose Bowl isn't the only place where Griffin will have a statue anymore. While he was one of the greatest players to ever play in the Rose Bowl, he should still get more honors from Ohio State. He's getting the honor of a statue right in from of Ohio Stadium too.
Ohio State football great Archie Griffin is getting a statue at the Shoe
Ross Bjork announced that Griffin will be getting a statue there. He is the first player to get a statue in front of the Shoe, but he may not be the last. There are some other great Buckeyes who have played in that stadium. More will continue to come through the Shoe as well.
As far as Griffin is concerned, this honor is well overdue. The only statue close to the Shoe is the Woody Hayes statue on Lane Avenue. Quite frankly, he should have one in the Shoe as well. Still, this is the honor that Griffin fully deserves and should have had sooner.
Bjork is doing a good job of making Ohio State Buckeyes fans happy with him early in his tenure. There's nothing like honoring a legend before his first football season as AD.
