The Ohio State football team appears to be close to having a new coach join their staff. Current Oregon running backs coach Carlos Locklyn appears to be next in line for the open running backs coaching spot in Columbus, as reported by 247 Sports.

Ryan Day himself said last week during media availability that he would like to have somebody in the role by the end of this week. That would give some valuable experience to both the new coach and players before Spring ball wraps up.

Locklyn would be a nice addition to Ohio State's staff as he is currently one of the top recruiters of running backs in college football and has done a really nice job in developing talent in his two seasons at Eugene. This hire would also hurt a new Big Ten foe as Oregon joins the conference for this upcoming season.

Locklyn also worked at Western Kentucky and Florida State before his hire at Oregon. He was a former Chattanooga running back in college as well. From an Oregon perspective, this is odd timing to be losing Locklyn after it was reported that he signed a contract extension only two weeks ago. But things change as we know all too well here in Columbus.

Oregon ranked third in the nation last year in yards per attempt at 5.91. Bringing some of that to the running backs room in Columbus led by TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins could lead to spectacular results.

Hopefully for Ryan Day and this coaching staff's sake, this can get resolved soon. Ohio State is knee-deep in recruiting the 2025 class as they landed four recruits over the past three days. The Buckeyes would love to add a running back to that list, but with no current position coach that would be hard.

Ohio State hosted the top overall running back in the '25 class over the weekend in Jordon Davison of Mater Dei High School in California. He had a really nice relationship with Tony Alford before he bolted for TTUN.

Hopefully, whoever is hired can secure that relationship and gain his commitment over the next few months. Keep it locked into Scarlet and Game for the latest on the running backs coach hire.
