Ohio State Football: Buckeyes suffer a big time blow to coaching staff
The Ohio State football team was dealt a massive blow to its coaching staff this weekend as senior analyst Todd Fitch has moved on to LSU in the same capacity. Even though he was only an analyst, Fitch has been seen as the de-facto quarterbacks coach for Ohio State and was credited in helping turn C.J. Stroud into a top-two NFL draft pick and NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
This is a surprising jump on the surface level. Fitch has been with Day both at Ohio State and at Boston College and the two seem to have a very good working relationship. For Fitch to move to a lateral role at LSU is somewhat shocking. Fitch is also an Ohio native.
The only connection that Fitch has with LSU is that its offensive coordinator, Joe Sloan, worked with Fitch for three seasons from 2016-2019 at Louisiana Tech.
But nonetheless, this is a big time loss for Ohio State and its quartebacks room. With new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly coming in to coach QB's, it would have been nice to have someone along side him who already knew the room. The Buckeyes also have two five-star freshmen to get up to speed this offseason, something Fitch could have really helped with.
Fitch is the second offensive analyst to leave the program, along with Joe Philbin who joined the Las Vegas raiders staff. Ryan Day hired Larry Johnson's son, Tony Johnsons as an analyst, but he is expected to be helping out with the wide receivers.
With Spring ball right around the corner, this was not an ideal time to lose Fitch. Hopefully Ohio State and Ryan Day have someone experienced already in mind to help lessen the blow of losing Fitch. Keep it locked into Scarlet and Game as we continue to watch to situation.
