Ohio State Football: Buckeyes offer 2026 five-star QB
The Ohio State football team and head coach Ryan Day are offering a scholarship to a major target for the 2026 recruiting class. Five-star quarterback Brady Smigiel of Newbury Park, California, was offered by the Buckeyes last week.
Smigiel is a super-talented player, who is often compared with former Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud. Standing at 6-5 and weighing 210 pounds, Smigiel already has the size to be a starting quarterback in major college football. But his rocket of an arm and very good mechanics are what is driving his recruiting ranks.
Newly appointed Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly was the one who offered Smigiel, as the two already had a previous relationship when Kelly was the head coach at UCLA. In fact, Kelly's UCLA program was one of the first major offers that Smigiel received.
However, Smigiel has his share of suiters, as he currently holds over 30 offers. The top competition to the Ohio State football program for Smigiel will come from Arizona, Arizona State, Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, Oregon State, Utah, and Washington. But with a relationship already in place with Chip Kelly, Ohio State figures to be in a good spot with his recruitment.
Smigiel joins fellow 2026 five-star quarterbacks Will Griffin and Jared Curtis as Buckeye offers, with Curtis being the No. 1 QB in the class according to 247Sports. Ohio State can be a bit picky when it comes to the 26' class of quarterbacks, however. With Air Nolan and Julian Sayin already in Columbus and Tavien St. Claire on the way next January, the talent at the position might be at an all-time high for the Buckeyes.
But nonetheless, Ohio State likes to get at least one QB commit with every class and Smigiel certainly looks like an intriguing option for 2026. Keep it locked into Scarlet and Game as we follow this recruitment amongst many others.
