Ohio State Football: Buckeyes may not be done with 2024 recruiting class after all
The Ohio State football team might not be done with its 2024 recruiting class as Cleveland area native Dominic Kirks is set to visit Columbus this weekend. Kirks is a four-star defensive end prospect who was committed to Washington but did not sign during the early signing period. Since then, his head coach, Kalen DeBoer, left to take the Alabama job and Kirks promptly de-committed from the Husky program.
This gave defensive line coach Larry Johnson the opportunity needed to add to his rather weak class of recruits for 2024. Only signing two players, Johnson is in desperate need to add some bodies between now and the start of Fall camp.
Kirks checks in as the No. 251 overall prospect in the class according to 247Sports and has been Crystal Ball selected to wind up with the Buckeyes by their service. Standing at 6-5 and weighing 255 pounds, the Painesville-Riverside player already looks the part as a defensive end for Ohio State. And his production matches the talent as he recorded 11 sacks and had 86 total tackles for Riverside last season.
Johnson and Kirks are not strangers, as Johnson has been trying to flip the Ohio native for some time now. Kirks took an official visit to the Ohio State football program back on October 7th for the Maryland game. USC is also trying very hard to get into this recruitment, so it appears to be a two-team race to get him to sign on February 7th.
Larry Johnson swung and missed on a number of defensive linemen for the 2024 class, most notably five-star end Dylan Stewart who wound up at South Carolina. Hopefully, Johnson can lock up Kirks and salvage his 2024' recruiting cycle. Keep it locked into Scarlet and Game as we continue to monitor this situation.
