Ohio State football: 2024 signees who will have the biggest impact as freshman

The bulk of the 2024 recruiting class for the Ohio State football team was signed on Wednesday. Which of those players will be able to make an impact the soonest?

3. Air Noland

The most important position on the field is quarterback. The Ohio State football team does not have an established starter at that positon next year now that Kyle McCord is headed to Syracuse. Devin Brown will get the first crack at the job by starting the Cotton Bowl.

Air Noland certainly has a shot to win the job. He is going to enroll early in January so that he's on campus for Spring ball. He has a real chance to win the job as a true freshman because of just how darn talented he is at all aspects of the quarterback position.

Noland has a strong arm and pairs that with accuracy. He can layer throws between defenders to make hard throws both over the middle and toward the sidelines. While he's not a scramble-first type of guy, he can certainly move if he needs to. That's something McCord couldn't really do.

The thing working against Noland is history. The Ohio State football program doesn't have a long history of starting quarterbacks as true freshmen. Would Ryan Day give him the keys right away when his job could be on the line next season? That's tough to do.

I do think Noland is talented enough to win the job. I think this will be predicated on how well Brown plays in the Cotton Bowl. If he kills it and throws for 300+ yards and 3 touchdowns, he will lock down the job. If he plays poorly, that opens the door for Noland to come in and grab it.

These are the three 2024 signees that I see as having the best chance to make an immediate impact on the Ohio State football team next season. We'll have to wait until the Spring to see what happens with these young players and how they fit into the dynamics of the roster.
