Ohio State basketball team is hosting an in-state four-star recruit
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball program doesn't have any recruits for the 2025 class yet. It's not something they have been super-focused on at this point. Navigating the transfer portal and getting a coaching staff in place has been a bigger priority for Jake Diebler thus far.
Now that stuff is mostly done, he has turned his attention to recruiting. The Buckeyes are hosting a four-star guard who is from Cleveland. That is Dorian Jones, who stands at 6'4 and 160 pounds. He obviously has some size, which is very attractive to the Buckeys.
Jones fits what kind of team Diebler is trying to build. He wants guys with size who can shoot. That's exactly the kind of role that Jones fills. His three-point shooting is strong and he can bother point guards with his size and length. That's not something the Buckeyes currently have at guard.
The Ohio State basketball team already has a good shooter in Juni Mobley coming in as a freshman this season. They need all of the shooters that they can get. They were 150th in the country in three-point shooting a year ago. It was a bad showing for most of the season.
Towards the end of the year, we saw what Diebler wanted to do, and that was get out in transition and shoot more threes. Ohio State is recruiting players that fit that mold. That's what this initial visit is with Jones. He's the kind of player that fits that mold.
I don't expect a commitment to come out of this visit. Jones has offers from a dozen other programs, so he's going to want to take more visits. What Ohio State basketball fans should want to see is for him to want to come back for another visit later on. That's when a commitment could come.
