Ohio State basketball faces Texas to begin 2024-25 season
By Jacob Rhymer
A matchup that we’ll see on the gridiron in 2025 is coming to the hardwood in 2024. According to CBS’ Jon Rothstein, the Ohio State basketball team will meet Texas in Las Vegas to begin the 2024-25 college basketball season.
The first official game of the Jake Diebler era at Ohio State will take place in Las Vegas against Texas from T-Mobile Arena on November 4th.
The Buckeyes will be challenged in their first game of the season against Texas who have brought in a few high-level transfers from the portal already. The Longhorns will be one of the better teams in the Big 12 next season which is always one of the best conferences in college basketball each season. This will be good for the Ohio State basketball team because it gives them a test to start the season.
The addition of Texas to the non-conference schedule for the Ohio State basketball team adds another marquee game outside of conference play. The Buckeyes will also play the return game of the home-and-home series they have with Texas A&M, this time in College Station. They will also face Kentucky with their new head coach, Mark Pope, in the CBS Sports Classic.
Jake Diebler is putting together a tougher non-conference schedule for the Ohio State basketball team and I’m here for it. It gives the Buckeyes a few more challenges in the early part of the season, which will prepare them for the gauntlet of the Big Ten and for games late in March.
The first offseason with Jake Diebler as head coach of the Ohio State basketball team has been great so far. It’s not done yet either as there could be more to come with potential transfers coming in or getting another marquee matchup lined up on the schedule. This offseason has gotten me excited for the Jake Diebler era to begin.
