New Ohio State football player writes touching note to each new teammate

Over the past few years, the Ohio State football team has started to use the transfer portal more. At first, it was just a few players here and there. Justin Fields came in one year. Jonah Jackson came in another. They would bring in players at position of need and that was it.

Ryan Day has expanded this thinking on that and now brings in the best players he can at any position. The Buckeyes have a new starting quarterback, center, and safety all from the portal. He did a really good job of bringing in some great players for this championship run.

The new safety is Preseason All-American Caleb Downs. Downs comes in as a sophomore and might already be the best safety in the country. He was Alabama's best defensive player as a freshman and led the Tide in tackles. Now, he's a Buckeye and he wanted to thank his teammates for embracing him.

Downs isn't just a great football player, but he's a good person too. He did something that not everyone would do when they show up to a new team: write his teammates a note. He gave everyone a note in their locker. Take a look at the note below.

I think that's pretty cool. It's nice to see that he already loves being a Buckeye and he's so grateful that his new teammates have accepted him and embraced him. He knows that the Buckeyes are going to need every single one of the guys to contribute if they want to win it all.

Downs is going to be one of the best players on an already incredible defense. He is going to really help them create more turnovers and bigger plays, which might be the last thing to unlock for this defense. His presence also allows Sonny Styles to move to linebacker to help stop the run more.

I can't wait to see what Downs does in an Ohio State uniform.
