Names to watch as the next head coach for the Ohio State basketball program
By Jacob Rhymer
As you may have already heard, Ohio State has officially parted ways with Head Coach Chris Holtmann. It’s the first time since 2017 that the Ohio State basketball team will be looking for a new head coach. If the Buckeyes were to get another coach from a different school, here are some names that are being thrown around.
1. Greg McDermott, Creighton
If you remember back to before Ohio State hired Holtmann, Greg McDermott was the favorite to coach the Buckeye basketball team until things fell through. After it didn’t work out with McDermott, the Buckeyes turned to Holtmann.
McDermott is currently at Creighton and having a great season so far. The Blue Jays sit in third place in the Big East with a 9-5 conference record, 18-7 overall. They’re likely to be a top-four seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
Last season they came up just short of reaching the Final Four, losing to San Diego State in the Elite Eight. McDermott runs an up-tempo offense spread with a lot of shooters, which is what this current Ohio State basketball team needs.
The next name on this list is a controversial name because he's had some trouble with the NCAA in the past.
