Miyan Williams explains his decision to leave the Ohio State football program
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team expects greatness from their running backs. TreVeyon Henderson has lived up to that for the Buckeyes when he's been healthy. Miyan Williams was pretty good at times too, although his production fell off last season for the Bucks.
The drop in production can be attributed to a knee injury that Williams suffered. He decided to have surgery on that knee and he missed the final six games of the season. Despite that, he decided to forego his final season of eligibility and declare for the NFL Draft. Henderson decided to return.
This seems like an odd decision and one that could cost Williams. A running back coming off a knee injury isn't exactly a first-round pick. He could have come back to school and gotten himself up to a second-round pick had he had a decent year in 2024.
Miyan Williams says it was the right time to leave the Ohio State football program
Speaking to the media at the NFL Combine, Williams said he felt it was the right time to move on from college. He wants to move into the next stage of his life. That's completely understandable. Running backs have a short shelf life anyway so he wants to start making money as soon as he can.
Williams isn't projected to be a high draft pick in this Draft. He's likely a Day 3 pick. But that might not be a bad thing for him. I feel that the right team fit is more important for running backs than some other positions. He could end up going to a good team that needs RB depth and he could work his way up. If someone gets hurt, he could step right in and give quality snaps.
Williams isn't working out at the Combine because he is still recovering from that knee surgery. Still, he is in Indianapolis to talk to teams and give individual interviews. That's the most important part of the Combine process for most of these teams anyway.
