Kyle McCord is exactly who Ohio State football fans thought he was
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team made a quarterback switch in the offseason. Either Ryan Day said it was best for Kyle McCord to leave, or McCord decided to leave on his own. I tend to believe the former, but it doesn't matter. It was best for both parties if there was a separation there.
Ohio State decided on Will Howard to be the new starter. Howard has been an upgrade, although not a huge one. His running ability gives something that McCord didn't bring to the table. In last week's game, McCord showed he is exactly who Ohio State football fans thought he was.
He proved that he is a pretty good quarterback who is best at a place where he doesn't have a lot of pressure. He'll still make some pretty awful decisions from time to time. McCord had one of those against UNLV, throwing a pretty terrible interception.

There was also the good part of McCord that made me think he was going to be an All-American. He threw for 355 yards and three touchdowns. Of course, it took him 63 passing attempts to get to those numbers. He can only put up big numbers with a ton of attempts.
That's exactly who he was with the Buckeyes. His ceiling wasn't high enough to put the team on his back and carry them to a victory, but he was good enough to beat some solid teams because he didn't make too many stupid decisions. So far, he's done that at Syracuse, too.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are in a better spot because they have Howard. McCord wasn't good enough to make Ohio State an elite offense. Howard has absolutely been able to do that. This Ohio State team is truly a national championship contender.
