it took just two seasons, but the Ohio State football team has the best defense in the country. Jim Knowles is the architect of the improvement after the defense kept giving up big plays under Kerry Coombs and Matt Barnes. Last season, no one allowed fewer passing yards than the Buckeyes. They were also third in total yards allowed and second in points allowed.

They return a lot of their best guys from that elite defense. They also added one of the best players in the country in Caleb Downs. There's a shot that the defense is even better this season. That's good news for Ohio State football fans and it's good news for the offense too.

It's good news for the offense because they will have to go against them every day in practice. That will only make them better once the season does finally get here. Iron sharpens iron, and there's no iron sharper than the Buckeye defense.

Ohio State's offense is immensely talented already. They just have to get the quarterback position settled. It will likely be Will Howard as the starter, but Ryan Day hasn't named a starter yet. Howard playing against the best pass defense in the country will only make him better.

The offensive line is still the biggest question and we won't find out about how good they are until the first few games are played. Even then, it's against weak competition. Big Ten play, specifically the Oregon game, will tell us a lot about how put together that unit is.

The Buckeyes are ready to have an offense as lethal as it was in 2021 and 2022. That's what all of the portal moves in the offseason were made for. Now, it's all about getting better in practice every single day against the best competition in the country.
