Jets sign yet another Ohio State football player to their roster
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has a lot of players in the NFL for various teams. Year in and year out, they have rosters full of players on different teams. Very few rosters in the league have more former Buckeyes than the New York Jets. They seem to love how Ohio State prepares their players.
Heading into training camp, the Jets had three Former Ohio State football players on the roster. They have Jeremy Ruckert, whom they drafted in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He's going to have a big part in the offense with Aaron Rodgers back healthy.
They have Jalyn Holmes, who is a former defensive lineman for the Buckeyes. Holmes has been in the NFL since 2018 and has now played for four different teams. He's had a much longer NFL career than many Ohio State football fans thought he would.
The best Buckeye on the Jets roster is Garrett Wilson. The 10th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Wilson has already established himself as the Jets' number one receiver. He's their best pass catcher and might be their best offensive player already at just 24 years old.
New York added another former Ohio State football player over the weekend. They signed cornerback Kendall Sheffield. Sheffield has bounced around the league a bit in his short NFL career, already having played for six different teams. This is now the seventh team he's found himself on.
Sheffield hasn't played in an actual NFL game since 2021 when he was in Atlanta. Part of that is because of injury and part of that has been due to ineffectiveness, At 28 years old, he's running out of chances to stay with a team and actually make some plays.
Hopefully, Sheffield can make the most of this opportunity and show that he is good enough to see snaps with the Jets. He has a lot of work to do that.
