The Ohio State basketball team has lost a few members of their roster to the transfer portal. They have now lost a fourth in Zed Key. He has decided to use his extra year of eligibility to head to the portal. He spent four years with the Buckeyes and will finish out his career somewhere else.

Key was a reserve this past season and averaged just 6.6 points and 4.1 rebounds a game. Personally, I think he lost too much weight. I think Chris Holtmann wanted him to be too slim. He wasn't as effective in the post because of the weight loss.

Now Key is gone. That leaves the Ohio State basketball team with just Felix Okpara as far as centers who have experience playing. Austin Parks got very little time this past year, and that didn't come until Jake Diebler took over in the middle of February. No one else has any experience.

The best way for the Buckeyes to replace Key is to go into the portal and grab another center. Parks will play next year regardless just because of the lack of depth. The Buckeyes aren't bringing in another center with their recruiting class, so they are stuck with who they have unless they go into the portal.

Diebler has hinted that he is not done with his portal work. So far, they have only grabbed Meechie Johnson from the portal. They are still at work to bring in some other players. Who those players are remains to be seen, but they have shown interest in a guard who is in the portal from Toledo.

As far as replacing Key is concerned, the Buckeyes knew they were going to have to do that anyway. He has played four years, so they weren't sure if he was going to use his extra year or not. They are prepared for this.
