How fast Jeremiah Smith could be the best receiver on the Ohio State football team
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has a wealth of wide receivers every year. It's typically the best group of receivers in the country. That is likely going to be the case in 2024 as well. Emeka Egbuka is going to be a first-round pick in 2025 and Carnell Tate is on his way to that status as well.
We know both of those players are already really good. Jeremiah Smith is someone that Ohio State fans are really excited to see play in a real game setting. We saw a glimpse of him in the Spring Game and it was a pretty good appetizer. We saw the flashes of talent he has.
Smith was the number-one overall recruit in last year's class. He had some great moments in practice as well. So how long will it be before Smith ends up being the best receiver on the team? It could be a lot sooner than you think with how talented he is.
I think he'll be the best receiver on the team in two years. By the time he's a junior, he'll be the best option. I still think Carnell Tate is really good and he'll likely be the best receiver in 2025, but Smith will be second. Smith will be the best guy by 2026, no matter who the quarterback is.
The Buckeyes will be adding great receivers between now and then. They reload them every single year. Still, Smith has the most hype of any receiver the Buckeyes have had in the last decade. Ted Ginn Jr. is probably the last receiver to come to Columbus with this much hype surrounding him.
Smith will probably already be the third receiver this season. He's going to get a lot of playing time as a true freshman. This Fall is going to be exciting.
