The Ohio State football program had a lot of really good players during their national championship run back in 2014. A lot of those guys would go on to get drafted and most of them have had solid NFL careers. A good number of them are still in the league and are playing today.

One of those former Ohio State football players is center Billy Price. Price played for the Buckeyes from 2013-2017 and started all of his games after he redshirted in 2013. He ended his career at center and was taken in the first round in 2018 by the Bengals.

While his career in Cincinnati didn't quite go as planned, he still had a lot of talent. He's still just 29 years old, so he has a lot of football left to play. At least he would, except that he has decided to retire from football due to a recent medical issue that he experienced.

Price announced the decision on social media. He had a pulmonary embolism that required emergency surgery. Now, he will have to be on blood thinners. Because there is a risk of an internal bleed, he has to retire from football in order to keep living his life as normal.

This is sad news. Price didn't get to leave the game of football on his own terms. While he wasn't with a team, he still could have made a roster if there was an injury during training camp. Injuries were the story of his pro career. It was a shame that he never got to play to his potential.

I hope Price is at peace with his decision and he can find something to help replace that hole that football will certainly leave in his life. He's a good Buckeye and a good man. We wish him the best in retirement.
