Former Ohio State football player arrested after running from the Feds

When Ohio State football players don't go on to the NFL, it can sometimes be hard for them to adjust. Without the structure of football, many players end up having a tough time either finding a job or filling that competitive void. Unfortunately, some Buckeyes get into trouble.
That has happened to former Ohio State football player Corey Smith. You might remember Smith as a receiver for the Buckeyes in the mid-2010s. In fact, he was on the 2014 national championship team. He actually got ejected from the Big Ten Championship Game against Wisconsin to start the run because of a targeting call.
Smith has found himself in legal trouble yet again. He has been arrested by Federal Marshals in West Virginia for a parole violation. He has been wanted for that violation and for failure to appear in court for a 2018 aggravated robbery charge. That's just the latest issue that he's had.
Back in 2021, he was sentenced to 57 months in prison for his role in a drug ring. He pled guilty to a count of aiding and abetting possession with intent to distribute meth. Now, he has been caught and will be facing even more jail time after being on the run.
This is a sad situation. It's never fun to see a former Buckeye have legal troubles, but these are significant. He is probably going to be in prison for at least another year in addition to the sentence he was already supposed to serve. His life has clearly gone down a dark path.
Perhaps some of his former teammates will reach out to him and try to offer him some help. He's clearly someone who needs it before his life gets even worse. Since he was grabbed by the Marshals, he'll be serving his time in federal prison.
