Expect more coaching changes to come to the Ohio State football program
By Ryan Stano
The 2023 season will go down as a forgettable one for the Ohio State football program. They once again lost to TTUN and fell flat on their face in the Cotton Bowl. It's certainly one that has forced the program to make a lot of changes with personnel and the coaching staff.
Two coaches have already been relieved of their duties this offseason, albeit slower than the fans wanted. Perry Eliano was fired as the safeties coach and was replaced yesterday by former Indiana DC Matt Guerrieri. Parker Fleming was also finally fired yesterday as well.
Those aren't the only changes to the staff that will be coming for the Ohio State football program. Ryan Day is looking to hire an offensive coordinator who can take over play-calling duties after multiple years of the fans pleading for him to do it.
Once that OC is hired, I would expect some other coaches to get pink slips. Justin Frye is the leading candidate to be let go once that OC is hired. Corey Dennis might have to pack his bags too. As long as Frye is out and they have a better offensive line coach to take his spot, that's all that matters.
Day might be hiring a new full-time staff member on the defensive side of the field as well now that Fleming is gone. Perhaps he hires a co-defensive line coach to help with a Larry Johnson succession plan like some have theorized. Maybe he promotes James Laurinaitis to linebackers coach. Who knows?
What I do know is that the current staff you see for the Buckeyes is not what is going to be with the program when Spring ball starts. Day is finally making appropriate changes because he knows he might be the change the program makes if he doesn't win next year.
