Could a former Ohio State football player win a Super Bowl in 2024?
By Tyler Lyman
Former Ohio State football player C.J. Stroud got drafted by the Houston Texans around this time last year. He played really well and was even in the MVP talk for a little. In his first season with them, he won a playoff game. This was impressive given that just the year before the Texans were one of the bottom in the league.
He was even helping the team just as soon as he was drafted, Stroud was the one who told the Texans to draft Tank Dell. Dell was really good last season too, he looked so promising and has high hopes for this season.
But Wednesday the Texans made a massive trade with the Buffalo Bills, the Texans gained Stefon Diggs with a 2024 sixth-rounder and a 2025 fifth-round pick. As for the Bills, they get a 2025 second-round pick. For C.J. Stroud he just gained a top 10 receiver, plus the fact that he already has two other outstanding receivers.
Some have said this is the best wide receiver trio in the league currently, and I have to agree. Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, and Tank Dell are a great trio, and having a top-tier quarterback like C.J. Stroud helps a lot. Plus they added Joe Mixon to their team.
As for the Texans odds of winning the Superbowl went to +1500 and only having 6 teams ahead of them, but that will continue to change almost every day until February 2025. I think though they have a better chance than some team ahead of them like the Bengals and Bills.
I think they both lost too much talent as of right now to make it past the AFC Championship. If the Texans could address some of their defensive issues in the draft or free agency they will be most likely the second or third best team in the AFC.
C.J. Stroud has been set up with a great team for talent and has the chance to win something big. He's already changed the Ohio State football narrative that OSU quarterbacks can't succeed in the league. Hopefully, he will be able to win something big, something he wasn't able to do in college football.
