Big Ten opponents announced for Ohio State basketball team
By Jacob Rhymer
A new era in the Big Ten begins this upcoming 2024-25 college basketball season after the conference expanded. We now know which of the newly acquired Big Ten schools, along with the current schools, the Ohio State basketball team will face and where they will play them next season.
Even with the expanded conference, the Ohio State basketball team will still play a 20-game conference schedule in the 2024-25 college basketball season. However, the difference between this season and last is that the Buckeyes will only get three games against teams both home and away compared to that occurrence happening seven times last season.
Each team on the Eastern/Midwest part of the Big Ten also has one trip out west to face either the combo of USC and UCLA, or the Oregon and Washington swing. This season the Buckeyes will head to Southern California to play USC and UCLA for their first road trip out west as conference opponents.
A few home games to note is the Ohio State basketball team hosts the two other former Pac-12 programs, Oregon and Washington. They will also play the two schools from the state up north in Columbus only with no return game.
The Buckeyes will have a difficult road schedule while playing in some pretty hostile environments as well. They travel to Mackey Arena to face Purdue, along with games at Illinois and Wisconsin. Jake Diebler’s squad will also play at Assembly Hall against Indiana, but the Buckeyes will also catch a return game with the Hoosiers in Columbus.
The Big Ten is always known as one of the toughest conferences in college basketball. The Ohio State basketball team will be tested each night in conference play, and it should prepare them for playing deep in March where they belong.
It’s just the beginning of May, but the college basketball season will be here before we know it!
