Jake Diebler has done an incredible job this offseason building the 2024-25 roster of the Ohio State basketball team with high-level transfers from big-time programs. Plus, he's recruited solid freshmen as well. While constructing this season's roster, Diebler has also been very active in recruiting the top talent in the 2025 recruiting class.

With Diebler taking over the head coaching position in Columbus, his main goal is to get Ohio State back to where it belongs as one of the top programs in college basketball. He’s on the path of doing that by going after some of the top recruits in 2025 to build a talented roster. One of the top recruits in the 2025 class has the Buckeyes on their radar.

Five-star Darryn Peterson is the top target in the 2025 class for Jake Diebler, and he revealed his final eight to Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68 this morning. According to Peterson, Ohio State made the cut for the top guard in the class along with Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Kansas State, Arizona State, and new conference rivals USC and Washington rounding out his final eight.

Peterson is the No. 3 overall player in the 2025 class according to 247Sports, and is the highest-ranked guard in the class. He’s a 6’5 195-pound shooting guard that is extremely athletic with a nice jump shot and has a good handle. In Diebler’s system, he could be used in a lot of ball screen action.

Even though Peterson does go to school in West Virginia at Huntington Prep, he is originally from Ohio. He has an official visit to Ohio State scheduled for the end of August. That will be a massive weekend for Jake Diebler as the Buckeyes are very much in the mix, and being the original home state of the top-three national prospect is a major factor.
