3 reasons why the Ohio State football team will go back to dominating Michigan
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program is on a rough streak against its rival. It's a streak we haven't seen since the 90s. The Buckeyes have lost three straight games to Michigan. They haven't beaten them since the 2019 season. They didn't play back in 2020 because TTUN canceled the game.
With what we know now, the 2021 and 2022 games have asterisks on them. We know that Connor Stalions was helping Michigan cheat in those games, There is no excuse for last year. There's no reason Ohio State should have lost that game. They just got flat-out outplayed.
While Michigan's national championship will forever have an asterisk next to it, it will be the one moment of joy TTUN fans get. The Buckeyes are gearing up for a national championship run this year. Their future looks good too. They should go back to beating Michigan again.
There are three main reasons why they should get back to beating them starting this year. The first one has to deal with how good the Buckeyes are this year compared to their rival.
1. Ohio State is better than Michigan this year across the board
Last year, Michigan had an unreal defense. It was one of the best defenses in the country, only rivaled by Ohio State. But because Ohio State's offense was not elite, they weren't able to overcome Michigan's elite defense. That defense also helped them win a national title.
That Michigan defense is still good this year, but they lost a lot of talent from last year. Ohio State's defense, in contrast, got even better. They added Caleb Downs to the secondary, making an already elite secondary even better. It should be the best in the country.
On offense, all of Michigan's talent is pretty much gone. Their offensive line is decimated and they lost one of the best quarterbacks they've ever had. Their top receiver is gone too. Ohio State, on the other hand, had their offense get better at many positions.
They got better at running back with the addition of Quinshon Judkins to pair with TreVeyon Henderson. The offensive line got better with the addition of Seth McLaughlin, although it couldn't get much worse. Will Howard is a slight upgrade over Kyle McCord at quarterback too.
The only real position they got worse in is tight end and Ryan Day hardly uses that position anyway. The receivers got a little bit worse but it's still the best group in the country. It helps to still have a group of great receivers after you lose the best one in the country to the NFL Draft.
The second reason why Ohio State will get back to beating Michigan is due to the coaching staff.
