PFF shows Ohio State QB Julian Sayin major love with new midseason honor

Maybe now the Heisman voters will pay a little more attention to him

Chalk up another endorsement for Julian Sayin.

The Ohio State quarterback was named best midseason QB by PFF. Sayin's 91.0 PFF grade is the highest in the nation. Through six games Sayin has thrown for 1,479 and 15 touchdowns with just three interceptions. Over the past three games Sayin has a 7-0 TD-INT ratio.

Sayin, a sophomore, has continued to get better each week. He has completed over 78 percent of his passes in four games this season and has done a good job of protecting the football and avoiding negative plays. The Buckeyes still has areas that it wants to improve in, the biggest being Red Zone offense.

"There's definitely we want to clean up, and every game you have stuff you want to clean up," Sayin said after the Illinois win last week. "I feel like we left a couple of things out there. You want to take what the defense gives you.We focus on taking completions and moving down the field, it tires defenses out when you get down in the red zone like that and you've got to punch it in. We can definitely improve in the red zone."

Right now Ohio State is converting on a little over 90 percent of its red zone opportunities, which is above average, but the concern is that just 22-of-31 (71%) red-zone opportunities have resulted in touchdowns.

Where does Sayin sit in the Heisman race?

Sayin is among the second-tier of Heisman candidates on FanDuel at +1800, behind the three favorites -- Miami QB Carson Beck (+300), Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza (+320) and Alabama QB Simpson (+430). He is tied in odds with teammate Jeremiah Smith and Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed.

That seems kind of low for the quarterback of the No. 1 team in the country, but Sayin has generally stayed under-the-radar. Ohio State hasn't really needed him to be spectacular for the Buckeyes to win games and Sayin hasn't had that "Heisman moment" yet.

The second-half schedule is fairly easy since Penn State looks to be a paper lion and who knows what Michigan will be in late November. As long as the Buckeyes keep winning and Sayin continues to play at a high level, he will stay in the Heisman conversation.
