From the national champs to a perennial Super Bowl contender? That's exactly what's going on for Ohio State football offensive tackle Josh Simmons, who heard his name called in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night. Simmons is Kansas City-bound.
Now that he's going to be playing for the Chiefs, Simmons will be tasked with trying to keep quarterback Patrick Mahomes on his feet. The Kansas City offensive line struggled last year, but Simmons will be expected to make a huge difference from Day 1 with the AFC powerhouse.
It looks like Mahomes has no doubt in his mind that the Ohio State standout will be able to live up to the hype. Right as the news broke that the Chiefs were drafting the stud tackle, Mahomes let everyone know how excited he was over the pick:

Patrick Mahomes clearly loved the Chiefs drafting Ohio State's Josh Simmons
With one simple emoji, Mahomes indeed let everyone know that he's pretty darn excited that Simmons is going to be lining up in front of him. In the Super Bowl, the protection for Mahomes was non-existent, which was brutal to see.
While the Philly pass-rush is on another level, it was quite clear that Brett Veach needed to address the offensive line this offseason. There was some buzz that KC might draft TreVeyon Henderson in the first round, but Veach prioritized his OL over the running back.
Hey, who knows, maybe Henderson will end up with the Chiefs after all. With Simmons, he's a stud offensive tackle and the kind of guy who can protect Mahomes and open up big holes for a ball carrier. Buckeyes fans loved watching him dominate in the trenches for Ryan Day. Now, more of the same will be on the way with him suiting up for the Chiefs. As long as Mahomes is happy with the pick, Chiefs and OSU fans can be elated too.
