The Ohio State football program is not a place for everyone to play. Not everyone is going to earn playing time, as only the best play for the Buckeyes every year. Five-star recruits come in every recruiting class. Only the best of the best end up playing every year.
That's why the Ohio State Buckeyes have players leave in the Transfer Portal every year as players chase playing time. Those guys want to be able to have collegiate careers that lead to the NFL. That's what running back Dallan Hayden was initially hoping for when he came to Columbus.
Hayden ended up playing in Columbus for two seasons before deciding to head into the Transfer Portal. Hayden ended up transferring to Colorado in search of a better opportunity. Now, Hayden has made the decision to enter the Transfer Portal for the second time in his career.
Former Ohio State running back enters Transfer Portal again
After getting 111 carries his freshman season with the Buckeyes, he has not gotten that many carries in a season again. His best season was that first year in Columbus, when he rushed for 553 yards and five touchdowns. He rushed for two touchdowns combined in the last two years in Boulder.
Hayden is likely going to end up at a G4 program. He clearly isn't cut out to play real minutes at a P4 program, as he has flamed out at two separate ones in three seasons. That means he's likely going to end up at a MAC, Sun Belt, or C-USA school at this point in his career.
The Buckeyes have been just fine without Hayden at the running back position. Still, Hayden deserved better from the Buckeyes. He should have gotten more carries during his sophomore season than the measly 19 carries he received.
Hayden will have one more year of eligibility left.
