The Ohio State football team had a pretty good Spring Game on Saturday. It was good to see a lot of the young guys get some reps in a live-game setting. Ryan Day was pleased with what he saw from his team, but he also admitted that the team had a long way to go.
Ohio State looked strong on the offensive side of the ball, especially with the receivers and the offensive line. Having the offensive line play well was good to see considering how many starters they lost from last year's national championship-winning team.
One area of concern following the Spring Game was the defensive line. The starting defensive line was not able to get pressure at all on the starting offensive line. The Buckeyes have to replace their entire starting defensive line, and that might be more of an issue than they thought.
The Ohio State football team might have to use the transfer portal to get defensive linemen
It's clear that the Ohio State Buckeyes will need some help on the defensive line when the Spring transfer portal window opens up. Based on what they have now, things don't look great. Day even mentioned that they might have to look at the defensive line in the portal.
The Buckeyes are still very talented on defense. Their secondary and their linebackers are going to be fine. With that being said, they need some help up front. Whether or not they will be able to get some starting-caliber defensive linemen in the portal remains to be seen.
This will take a lot from Larry Johnson to help get the defensive line in a spot where they won't be a liability. He is one of the best defensive line coaches of all-time, so this is another chance for him to show what he can do with the group that the Ohio State football team has now.
