On3 analyst predicts worst-case scenario for Ohio State football in 1st CFP rankings

Ohio State has been the best team in the country all season long, but one On3 analyst thinks they could get knocked down in the first College Football Playoff rankings.

Since beating then No. 1-ranked Texas at the beginning of the season, no other team in college football has even come close to dethroning the Buckeyes at the top spot in the rankings. Some have tried with big wins over other high-ranked opponents, but the AP has kept Ohio State at No.1.

When it comes to the important rankings, though, none is more important than the College Football Playoff rankings, which, starting today, will be released every Tuesday till the selection for the playoff is made. Some believe that even though the Buckeyes have looked like the best team all season, they could get knocked down a peg in the CFP rankings, including one On3 analyst.

J.D. PicKell believes that not only will Ohio State fall one spot, but two spots down to No. 3 behind Indiana at No. 1 and Texas A&M at No. 2.

There has been a lot of chatter that the Hoosiers would jump the Buckeyes in the rankings, but this is the first time the Aggies have also been projected to take over the Buckeyes in the rankings. The reason for the Hoosiers potentially jumping the Buckeyes is that they have more of a quality win over a ranked opponent, as Oregon sits at No. 9 and Texas sits at No. 13.

The reason for the Aggies being over Ohio State would have to be for the same reason. Texas A&M is undefeated, like Ohio State, with a win over Notre Dame, who is currently ranked No. 10 now and No. 20 LSU, who is no longer in the rankings.

There is one game on Texas A&M's schedule that should be looked at and questioned, though, as the Aggies almost lost to Arkansas, which earlier this season fired its head coach because the team was playing so poorly.

Ohio State would have games where they seemed to be closer in the beginning than they should be, but the Buckeyes have always finished strong with convincing wins. If Ohio State drops because of that, then it is just more fuel to add to this Buckeye fire to win another National Championship.
