The Ohio State football program won the first national championship of the 12-team CFP era. That program isn't the only one that was successful this season for the Buckeyes. They had a lot of athletic teams succeed at the highest level in the 2024-25 year.

In fact, they were so good that the Ohio State Buckeyes won the CapitalOne Cup on the men's side. The CapitalOne Cup is the award given to the program that accumulates the most points throughout its athletic departments by winning as many games as possible. That national championship by the football team gave them a ton of points in those standings.

This is the first time that the Buckeyes have won the CapitalOne Cup. They were able to capture it by beating Florida, Vermont, North Dakota State, and Penn State. That was the rest of the top five in the standings, but there was quite a gap between the Buckeyes and second place.

Winning the CFP National Championship was clearly the biggest thing that helped the Buckeyes win the Cup, but that program wasn't the only one that helped them. Their lacrosse team, soccer team, fencing team, tennis team, and wrestling team were also big contributors.

This just goes to show the dominance that the Buckeyes have in men's sports. It's something for Ross Bjork to be proud of as a new athletic director. He will have to figure out a way to continue that dominance in a new era of NIL rules and compliance with the College Sports Commission.

If the Buckeyes repeat as national champions in 2025, they can certainly help the program have another good start at winning the Cup again next season. Winning the title won't come easy with all of the starters that they lost, though.
