Ohio State had a great game in their win over Minnesota on Saturday night. No one had a better game than Carnell. Tate's great season will continue to be need for the Buckeyes as 2025 goes on. Tate is often overshadowed by his teammates in the wide receivers' room.
Whether it was Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Egbuka, or Jeremiah Smith, Tate was rarely first in the conversation. In the 2025 season, however, Carnell Tate is showing why he belongs in any discussion about Wide Receiver U.
Tate came into the game against the Gophers with 15 carries for 252 yards and three touchdowns. He would add nine catches for 183 yards and another touchdown to get the Buckeyes to 5-0. That's why he's THE Ohio Tate. Carnell Tate has 24 catches for 435 yards and four touchdowns. The Buckeyes will need more of this from Tate this year, just like Tate and Egbuka did last year.
THE Ohio Tate is in the zone! https://t.co/MdrhOiC0BE

Carnell Tate and Jeremiah Smith get each other open. If you try to shut down Smith, Tate starts beating you. You try to stop Tate and Smith gets open. If you somehow manage to slow them both then Max Klare, Brandon Inniss, Bo Jackson, and the rest of this high powered offense.
Tate won't get the Heisman hype of Jeremiah Smith, or even his quarterback Julian Sayin, Smith and Sayin though, will owe a portion of whatever love they get in the race for that trophy to Carnell Tate. #17 will be happy to be another first-round draft pick in the NFL when he calls it a career at Ohio State.
Sayin's accuracy and ball placement are insanely good! https://t.co/MgDO3qejPR

Ohio State will need everyone at their best when Tate, Smith, and Sayin and company travel to Champaign, Illinois next week. Conservative game plans and the wind tunnel that is Memorial Stadium has slowed down Buckeye offenses in the past.
It will be up to Ryan Day and Brian Hartline to not let it happen or the Buckeyes could fall into the trap Bret Bielema set for Ohio State at Wisconsin in 2010. If the Buckeyes don't outthink themselves, and stop themselves, they should get their sixth win against Illinois as they continue to try and repeat as national champions in 2025.
