Ohio State's next President choice couldn't be any more obvious

The Ohio State University should try to make this happen ASAP.

The Ohio State University got some bombshell news on Monday morning when Ted Carter decided to abruptly resign as President of the university. He did so in disgrace, as he was having an inappropriate relationship with someone. Carter only served as President of Ohio State for just over two years.

Carter leaves the Buckeyes in an interesting spot. He wasn't particularly well-liked by the students and by some alumni. Yet, he did some good things. Ultimately, those good things didn't outweigh this inappropriate relationship. Now, the Ohio State Buckeyes need someone new.

While Ohio State does have former President Gordon Gee as part of the faculty, he would not be the obvious choice to make for the Buckeyes. There is a better choice that everyone would be happy with if Ohio State were able to pull it off, and that's former football coach Jim Tressel.

The Ohio State University should pursue Jim Tressel as the next President

Tressel is the obvious choice for Ohio State to make. He has a storied history with the Ohio State football program, even though they had to fire him for the dumbest so-called "scandal" in NCAA history. After that, he became the President of Youngstown State.

Now, Tressel is the Lt. Governor of the state of Ohio. If he is interested in coming back to Ohio State, they should pursue him immediately. With him holding the second-most powerful seat in the state, it might be a tough sell to have him move on and take over the university.

Ohio State should at least make Tressel say no, even if he does ultimately reject them. There is no harm in asking him to take over the university. Tressel still has love for Ohio State and has helped Ryan Day navigate becoming the head coach of the football program.

Tressel did great things at Youngstown State before retiring from that position. It would make all the sense in the world for him to come home.
