With the introduction of the transfer portal, it has been much easier for college football players to find playing time with other programs. The Ohio State football program has taken advantage of that, bringing in some key players over the years. Caleb Downs is certainly the biggest example of that, as is Julian Sayin.
Of course, players have transferred away from the Buckeyes, as well. Some players have decided that it was better for them to play elsewhere than to sit on the bench with the Buckeyes. Sometimes it works out for them, and sometimes it doesn't.
Unfortunately, one former receiver might be regretting his decision to move away from the Ohio State Buckeyes. Former Ohio State receiver Kaleb Brown has actually transferred twice in his career. So far, he hasn't been able to put up much production in his other stops.
Former Ohio State receiver is putting up modest numbers at his final home
Brown transferred to Iowa following the 2022 season after recording just one catch as a Buckeye. He played at Iowa for two seasons, recording just 23 catches for 233 yards and one touchdown in those two years. After last season, he decided to transfer to UAB and play for the Blazers.
This year, Brown has 15 catches for 194 yards and two touchdowns. This is not the kind of college football career that Brown was hoping for when he was a four-star recruit coming out of high school to play for the Buckeyes. Looking at who replaced him, it's hard to blame Brown for leaving.
Marvin Harrison Jr., Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate, and Emeka Egbuka were just some of the receivers who came up either while Brown was in Columbus or afterwards. All of those guys are much better than Brown is, even if he had stayed and gotten Brian Hartline's coaching.
Brown got more playing time with both the Hawkeyes and the Blazers than he would have with the Buckeyes. Perhaps he doesn't have any regrets. Playing football won't be part of his future, but Ohio State fans hope he's successful at whatever he decides to pursue in life.
