Ohio State redshirt freshman quarterback Julian Sayin earned his third, fourth, and fifth Player of the Week Awards in Ohio State’s 34-0 win over Wisconsin. He's been Big Ten Freshman of the Week three times, the outright Big Ten Player of the Week once, and this week earned the Shaun Alexander National Freshman of the Week award.
Sayin got his first in Week 2 for his big game against Grambling State, his second in Week 6 for his game against Minnesota, and three more against Wisconsin.

Against Grambling State, Sayin was 18 of 19 for 306 yards and four touchdown passes in Ohio State’s 70-0 win. When he got the award for the Buckeyes' victory over Minnesota, he was 23 of 27 for 326 yards and three touchdowns. In the win over Wisconsin, Sayin was 36 of 42 for 393 yards and four touchdowns, all career highs.
On the season, he is 156 of 195 for 1,872 yards and 19 touchdowns. Completing 80% of his passes has made him the most accurate passer in college football this season. It’s also made him into a Heisman candidate.
Critics will point out that his leading receivers are two all-Americans, future first-round NFL Draft picks, and at least one of them is a Heisman candidate, too. But this is true of every quarterback in Ryan Day’s tenure at Ohio State, and Sayin is currently leading them all statistically. Day has always put an emphasis on accuracy from his quarterbacks, and Sayin is currently the most accurate of his quarterbacks.
Sayin and the Buckeyes certainly have more chances to test and prove themselves when they resume playing in November, especially in The Game against a very good defense. Ohio State would love for him to sweep the weekly awards in the Big Ten and the nation on November 29th.
