Heading into this season, pundits across the country were not expecting the Ohio State football team to have a killer at quarterback. With Julian Sayin being a first-time starter, he was not expected to be one of the best players in college football this season, especially as a freshman.
That's exactly who Sayin is. Sayin has the Ohio State Buckeyes looking like a better team than the one that held up the championship trophy a year ago. Sayin has gone from someone that the Buckeyes were looking to protect early in the year to the Heisman Trophy front-runner.
With the season winding down into the final month of the regular season, Sayin has started racking up more awards and has been popping up on award watchlists. He has hit another one, as he has been named as a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Award.
Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin named a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Award
Sayin is considered one of the semifinalists for the award given to the best quarterback in the country. It's hard to say that Sayin hasn't been the best quarterback up to this point, while looking at his stats and the results on the field that they have led to.
So far, Sayin has thrown for 2,491 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just four interceptions. He's completing 80.9 percent of his passes, which is an absurdly high number. Sayin does a fantastic job of getting through his reads quickly, showing that he does an excellent job of reading a defense.
Of course, Sayin's job is made easier by the fact that he has Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate to throw the ball to. Still, he has to throw accurate passes to these guys so they can make enough plays to win games. Sayin is a big reason why the Buckeyes are still undefeated.
The Buckeyes are hoping that Sayin can lead the Buckeyes to a national championship and cement Ohio State as the next dynasty in college football.
