Ohio State had a disappointing loss to Texas on Saturday night. It was the worst collapse in Ohio State football history. It was disappointing for the players and the fans to see this happen after the Buckeyes had a 23-3 lead in the first half. Ryan Day has to figure some things out.
After the game, the Buckeyes don't seem to be united. Usually, players can rally around a common cause after a tough loss. This one seems different, however. Fans are unhappy, and things could spiral out of control unless the team rallies around each other.
Ohio State needs to make sure one loss doesn't torpedo the season
Legend Bey is one of the most exciting players that the Ohio State Buckeyes have. Yet, he played just one snap on offense against Texas. After the game, fans were not happy with that. Khary Wilder had some great plays on defense, yet he was hardly seen on the field, too.
Bey is someone who has had an up-and-down start to his Ohio State football career. He has already been suspended by Day. Only playing one snap on Saturday was totally wrong. He needs to be out on the field more often, as long as he cleans up some of the mistakes he has made.
This one loss to Texas won't torpedo the entire season, unless the players let it. They can still afford one more loss this year and still make the College Football Playoff. This is a team that everyone expects to be in contention for a national championship.
Bey chose Ohio State after he left Tennessee. He is a true freshman in a loaded running back room. While he is exciting, he has a lot to still learn. He made two massive mistakes in the opener on special teams. That clearly didn't sit well with Day, which is why he only played one offensive snap.
Ohio State has to put individual agendas behind them for team success
In order for Ohio State to actually win a national championship, they have to rally together. Individual agendas can't matter, and it seems like too many players are more worried about their own stats than winning games. That's not the recipe to win a national title.
Ohio State won the national championship in 2024 after the loss to TTUN because the team was able to rally together. They cared more about each other and the collective than any individual goal. It seems that this team has some young players who don't have that same sentiment.
Day needs to get his team to refocus and start playing good football again. For three quarters, Ohio State looked like the best team in the country. They can't let one bad quarter torpedo the rest of the season. Day needs to address the mistakes that he made, as well as the ones that the players made, in order to get the train back on the tracks.
This team has too much talent to let one loss completely derail the season. They should still be considered title contenders.
