Who would have thought that days after the Big Ten Championship, the media would be talking about a kicking change for Ohio State in order to win the National Championship? Well, that is exactly what is being talked about, especially after a missed field goal practically sealed the fate of the Buckeyes in the Big Ten Championship.
After a missed conversion on 3rd and 1 with about two minutes and 45 seconds left, head coach Ryan Day opted to kick the field goal and tie the game up at 13 instead of going for it and risking walking away with no points. Well, it seems that going for it would have probably been the smarter play, as Ohio State kicker Jayden Fielding missed the easy chip shot kick.
This allowed Indiana to have a chance to run the clock down, and even though they had to punt the ball, Ohio State only had 24 seconds and no timeouts to get down the field. Of course, a lot of the blame goes on Fielding, but ultimately, there were many reasons Ohio State didn't win that game.

In the offseason, Ohio State landed transfer kicker Jackson Courville from Ball State. Courville is a solid kicker who was drilling 52-yard field goals at Ball State and went 11-for-13 on his kicks altogether.
Fielding this season hasn't been horrible, going 16-for-19 as the Buckeyes have found he end zone quite a bit. However, he has missed one field goal from a range of 20 to 29 yards, one field goal from a range of 30-39 yards, and hasn't hit anything from 50+ yards.
Day could decide to make a change at the kicking position with Courville having the bigger leg. Some would like to see a change, as kickers are a lot more important to the game than some would admit. Just look at the Big Ten Championship loss. Ohio State needs someone who can make the kick in the big moment, and Fielding may not be that person.
