Jake Diebler is scorching hot on the recruiting trail.
Yesterday, the Ohio State basketball head coach landed his first commitment to the 2027 class in four-star small forward Deng Ngor, beating out Duke, Florida, and Washington for the top 20 recruit. Today, he received a second commitment from the 2027 class in as many days.
Four-star point guard Jaxson Davis from Monarch Academy in Kansas City, Kansas, announced today that he's committing to the Buckeyes, giving Jake Diebler his PG of the future. Davis is the 46th-ranked prospect and the 16th-ranked point guard in the 2027 class on Rivals, plus is the top recruit in the state of Kansas.
Davis is originally from Illinois, where he played at Warren Township High School before transferring to Monarch Academy this offseason for his senior year. While there, he was named Illinois Mr. Basketball twice in 2025 and in 2026. Just like former Buckeye All-American EJ Liddell.
In July, the Illinois native cut his list down to Ohio State, Michigan State, Iowa, Minnesota, Creighton and Marquette. Davis took his official visit to Columbus two weekends ago during the football game vs. Ball State. Other than visiting the Buckeyes, the skilled point guard also took a visit to Creighton.
He had just recently canceled his visit to Iowa and previously canceled a visit to Minnesota. This cleared the way for Jake Diebler and staff to attack and land Davis not long after his visit to Ohio State.
Davis brings Scoring and strong Playmaking to Columbus
As a prospect, Davis is a highly skilled scorer who can put the ball in the basket from anywhere on the floor. He's left-handed and thrives with shooting off the dribble, but can catch-and-shoot too. Also uses his body to power through contact on the inside. Scoring isn't all, though, as he creates for others extremely well too. In his junior season, he averaged 23.8 points per game and dished out 5.3 assists per game.
Davis also has the tools to be a strong defender. He keeps others in front with his quickness and has terrific hands to be pesky and poke the ball free, as he averaged 3.5 steals per game last season as well.
The 6-foot-1 point guard knows how to run an offense, score, plus has the ability to table-set for others at a high-level, along with the capability to grow as a strong defender. Having all of these tools can allow him to come to Ohio State and immediately provide an impact as a freshman in the Scarlet and Gray.
The addition of Davis to pair alongside fellow four-star Deng Ngor is a very strong start to the 2027 recruiting class for the Buckeyes. Jake Diebler continues to showcase his tools as a great recruiter and builds a program with players that fit the style of play he wants, and helps get the program back to the level it was at before.
This is a very fast start to this recruiting cycle for Jake Diebler and his staff at Ohio State, and they aren't showing any signs of slowing down.
