Now that Matt Campbell has taken over at Penn State, he's ready to make a statement in the Big Ten both on and off the field. Recruiting wise, Campbell has been able to turn some heads, but let's not forget one important thing here: Ryan Day and Ohio State own the Big Ten when it comes to locking up some of the top players in the country, and that's not going to change.
That could be proven once again when it comes to 5-star cornerback Nasir Richardson, who has reportedly locked in a visit to Columbus for Sept. 19, when the Buckeyes host Kent State. The trustworthy Mick Walker delivered the news, which surely has reached the Nittany Lions fanbase. That's because Penn State seems to be in a strong position here, but when Day and Co. come calling, the phone always gets picked up.

As things stand, it seems like Penn State has been the one to make the biggest splash for the 6-0, 160-pounder, as Penn State is the lone school with 'warm' interest showcased on 247Sports. This speaks to how much Campbell and the Nittany Lions as a whole have made him a top priority. However, they're not the only ones.
In addition to Ohio State, the Newark, N.J. product is also receiving strong interest from Michigan, Oregon, and others. That's not a surprise, as he's ranked five stars and the No. 1 cornerback in the country for the 2028 class. Thus far, Richardson has picked up 34 offers, and you better believe that many more are going to be on the way for him.
This is something Ohio State will be keeping in mind, but the focus right now is to make sure he has a perfect stay while on campus later this month. In a perfect world, the Buckeyes will enter that weekend with a 2-0 record. In Week 1, Ohio State is expected to trounce Ball State, and then the monster tilt with Texas in Austin will be on the way.
It's up in the air how things will go, but Richardson will be jacked up to see the atmosphere at The Shoe once he does make the trip over to town. And after all the success Ohio State has had going after 5-star targets, there's no reason to believe Day can't keep things going for the '28 group. Thus far for the 2027 haul, 5-star standouts David Jacobs and Jamier Brown are on board.
Then for 2028, quarterback Christopher Vargas, wide receiver Jett Harrison, plus EDGE Jameer Whyce are locked in as 5-star commits. Will Richardson add his name to the mix this fall? You never know how things will go down, but Ohio State is a serious player here, and it could spell bad news for Campbell's efforts.
