The Ohio State football program recruits the best quarterbacks in the country every year. Ryan Day is known as one of the best coaches when it comes to QBs, which is why so many top-shelf guys come to play for the Buckeyes. He knows how to get quarterbacks drafted.
Day's son, RJ Day, has been the starting quarterback at a local school in Columbus for the last couple of years. He's not an upper-echelon type of quarterback. He is just a three-star recruit, so his starting for the Ohio State Buckeyes one day would be a tall order.
He must be aware of that, because he has never mentioned playing for the Buckeyes. Even though it would be cool to play for his father, it seems that he understands he's not quite good enough to play for Ohio State. That's perfectly fine, and he has decided to commit to a Big Ten foe.
Son of Ohio State head coach Ryan Day commits to Northwestern
Day announced that he has committed to Northwestern. He got an offer from the Wildcats in April, and that pushed his interest in that school higher. Day visited Evanston this past weekend and decided that it is the place for him. That means he will be facing the Buckeyes in the future.
As a member of the 2027 recruiting class, Day will be a freshman next year. In fact, he will face his father's team next season as a freshman. Ohio State travels to Northwestern to play a game. It's highly unlikely Day will play in that game, as starting as a true freshman is going to be very hard.
Ryan Day is likely very happy for his son. This is a nice moment for his family, even if that makes the matchup next season against the Wildcats a little more awkward. Northwestern is a fantastic school, and it seems like a good place for someone of Day's talent.
