The Ohio State Buckeyes are riding high off a blowout victory over Iowa. They won the game 31-14 and showed the rest of the college football world that they can win games on the road over good teams. Now, they get a bit of a breather before facing more good teams on their schedule.

This weekend is homecoming, and the Buckeyes take on Maryland. Maryland comes in as one of the worst teams in the Big Ten. In fact, there is a chance that Ohio State ends up getting a coach fired for Maryland, as head coach Mike Locksley enters with his seat on fire.

Ohio State could get Mike Locksley fired this weekend

Locksley is on the hot seat as the Terrapins travel to Columbus. So far this season, Maryland is 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the Big Ten. Locksley's team is coming off two straight blowout losses to Big Ten teams. The Buckeyes could give them a third straight blowout loss, which could end Locksley's tenure.

This year isn't the only bad year that Locksley has had as the head coach of Maryland. The Terps finished 4-8 in each of the last two seasons. He is under .500 as the head coach of Maryland, a position that he has held since 2019. His time could be coming to an end.

If what the Buckeyes did to the Hawkeyes is any indication of what is going to happen on Saturday, Locksley could be in for a tough afternoon. Ohio State is already a massive favorite for this game, and that line could eventually get higher as the week goes on.

Locksley is going to have a tough time finding a way to stop Jeremiah Smith. No team has been able to completely shut him down so far this season, as he has had back-to-back weeks of over 200 yards receiving. He is the best player in the country, and Maryland isn't equipped to handle him.

Ohio State has a final breather before a rough finish to October

This game will be the final easy game that the Buckeyes have on the schedule for quite a while. After the Terps make their way to town, Ohio State plays IU and USC on the road before hosting Oregon. All three teams are ranked foes, and it will be hard for them to win all of those games.

How well Ohio State navigates that stretch will determine whether it will be able to make the College Football Playoff. Based on what they did to Iowa, they shouldn't have too much trouble picking up wins. The Indiana game is still the toughest game that they have.

Winning that game would firmly prove that Ohio State is the best team in the Big Ten. It already seems that they have proven that the fourth-quarter collapse against Texas was a fluke. They have put the pedal to the metal ever since that game. Ohio State looks like a juggernaut.

The Buckeyes have already gotten one coach fired this year. Locksley is hoping he isn't a casualty of theirs next.
