Focus, and nail it! That is what the Ohio State Buckeyes need to do to secure five-star running back David Gabriel Georges' commitment for the 2027 class. With him about to enter his series of official visits, Buckeyes fans can only hope Ryan Day and his staff leave a strong first impression. He will be visiting Ohio State first on May 29, with visits coming up to Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Georgia later on.
Thankfully, Rivals' Steve Wiltfong has a hard time seeing Gabriel Georges committing anywhere else.
“I’m still riding with my prediction in favor of Ohio State for Chattanooga (TN) Baylor School five-star running back David Gabriel Georges. With the way the Buckeyes have developed and showcased running backs, to the consistency of the program, to the competitive NIL opportunities, Ohio State checks the most boxes, and is the best fit.”
According to the 247Sports Composite, Gabriel Georges finds himself as the No. 1 prospect from Tennessee, the No. 2 running back in the country, and the No. 10 overall player in the 2027 cycle. While he may be listed as being from Tennessee, Gabriel Georges is a native of Quebec who just so happens to play his high school football at The Baylor School in Chattanooga. This matters so much.
Day and Ohio State might be in a bit of a "slug fest" for Gabriel Georges, but they definitely got this!
Ohio State remains in the driver's seat to land David Gabriel Georges
No doubt about it. This latest recruiting intel from Wiltfong must make Vols head coach Josh Heupel sick to his stomach. In most years, Tennessee should be able to land its best prospect in-state. However, Gabriel Georges is a unique one because he may not have as strong of ties to the state as other high school prospects from inside its borders. Georgia is also very close to Chattanooga, too...
What is important to understand here is Ohio State is a preeminent program in college football at the peak of its powers. Tennessee may be "home" for him for now, but that all can change in an instant. To be quite frank, Georgia is the program Ohio State may want to worry about more so than maybe even Tennessee. The Bulldogs develop running backs the NFL loves. Ole Miss has had a good run of it, too.
While all four of Gabriel Georges' finalists have made the College Football Playoff at least once in the last two years, Georgia and Ohio State have made it the last two postseasons. For as great of a story as it may be for Gabriel Georges to commit to the Vols, Day and his staff could not care any less about that narrative. They have national championships to win, something Tennessee struggles with.
For the time being, Ohio State should strive to extend its recruiting lead over Tennessee, Georgia, and Ole Miss for Gabriel Georges' five-star services. He may be visiting with Ohio State first, but a great impression made by the Buckeyes could be too much for the Volunteers, Rebels, or Bulldogs to overcome. To be quite frank, either Tennessee rolls out the red carpet for him, or he will be a Buckeye.
It may be a four-team race, but it really is a two-man race now, with a clear frontrunner established...
