It has been a strange calendar year for the Ohio State basketball program. Jake Diebler got the job at the end of the year after leading the team to the NIT, but things fell apart quickly. After a good start to the season, the Buckeyes collapsed and missed the NCAA Tournament.
Players have been heading for the transfer portal ever since the year ended. Meechie Johnson transferred back to South Carolina after returning to Ohio State for a year. Aaron Bradshaw left after spending just a year with the Buckeyes, as well.
Neither one of those losses is big. In fact, the program is probably better off without both of them. Now Sean Stewart, another player who transferred in last year, has decided to enter the transfer portal after just a year with the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Ohio State basketball player Sean Stewart enters the transfer portal after one year with Ohio State
Stewart came to Ohio State after one year at Duke and was not very productive. He averaged just 5.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game. He shot 54% from the field and played just over 18 minutes per game. Losing him isn't going to be much of a big deal, either.
Ohio State was expected to be busy in the transfer portal. While they have added a few players, none of them would be considered stars by any means. Diebler has a lot of work to do next season if he wants Ohio State basketball fans to be happy with him once again.
If Ohio State doesn't make the NCAA Tournament again next year, it will be four straight years that they have missed the tournament. They are already on a streak that hasn't been seen in program history in almost 25 years. Adding another year to that streak would be catastrophic.
