The Ohio State football program has not been very active in the Transfer Portal. Despite having plenty of guys leaving the program, the Buckeyes have only brought in two guys so far. There is still plenty of time for them to do so, but a lot of good players have committed to other programs already.
One of the top players in the portal is former Penn State defensive end Chaz Coleman. When it was announced that he was entering the portal, the Ohio State Buckeyes were the early favorite to land him. They recruited him hard, coming in second to Penn State when he made his decision out of high school.
After visits to some SEC programs, including Texas, LSU, and Tennessee, the Buckeyes look like they are going to get the last crack at him. Coleman will be visiting the Buckeyes on Tuesday, giving them an excellent shot to land a big-time commitment from a great portal player.
Chaz Coleman to visit the Ohio State football program on Tuesday
Coleman was a five-star recruit in the 2025 recruiting class. While he didn't put up great stats at Penn State, Jim Knowles' system isn't really set up for edge players to dominate. Ohio State fans saw that firsthand for the three seasons that he was in Columbus.
Under Matt Patricia, Coleman would have a much better chance to produce. Ohio State is losing a lot of depth on the defensive line, meaning Coleman would have an excellent shot to earn a starting job. The Buckeyes need an edge rusher that they can count on next season.
If Coleman leaves Columbus on Tuesday without a commitment, that could be a massive issue. They need to seal the deal while he's on campus to prevent him from driving up the price even more from one of the SEC programs pursuing him.
Ryan Day needs to land an impact player up front. Bringing Coleman in would certainly qualify. Fans are hoping he can bring in a competent kicker and punter, as well.
