The Ohio State football team has a depth problem on the offensive line. That became apparent when the Buckeyes lost Josh Simmons and Seth McLaughlin. Once those two players went down, Ohio State all of a sudden could not get push up front in the run game.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have had to reshuffle the offensive line several times because of the injuries they've had. One of the reshuffles they had to do was put Zen Michalski at left tackle against Nebraska following the season-ending injury to Simmons.
That ended up being a disaster. Michalski wasn't very good at all in the game. Then, he got hurt. At that moment, it was pretty clear that Michalski was never going to play with the Buckeyes again. Now, he has decided to leave Ohio State and enter the transfer portal.
The Ohio State football team loses another offensive lineman to the transfer portal
Michalski becomes the latest offensive lineman to enter the transfer portal. The Buckeyes also lost Miles Walker to the portal last week. While Michalski didn't play much at all throughout his three-plus seasons with Ohio State, this just exacerbates the depth problems with the offensive line.
The offensive line got a transfer portal addition from Minnesota in Phillip Daniels, which helps a bit. Still, the Buckeyes need to get more players from the offensive line in the transfer portal. Otherwise, the starting offensive line next year is going to be very bleak.
Michalski will likely end up at a MAC school. He hasn't played much for the Buckeyes except in mop-up duty. As mentioned before, his one start wasn't great. We certainly wish him nothing but the best. If he does end up at a MAC-type school, he should be able to push for playing time in the Spring.
