The Ohio State football team won the national championship because of how well the offensive play-calling was during the College Football Playoff. Chip Kelly decided to call games much more aggressively than he did during the regular season, and it paid off.

Ohio State didn't score under 28 points during their four-game run to the title. Kelly deserves a lot of credit for that run. He left UCLA to be Ohio State's offensive coordinator because he wanted to just coach football. That's what he was able to do, for one year at least.

There were rumors that Kelly was taking some interviews for offensive coordinator positions in the NFL. Still, he was out on the road recruiting, so all signs pointed to him returning. It turns out that he was taking interviews and has now decided to leave the Ohio State Buckeyes.

According to ESPN's Pete Thamel and Adam Schefter, Kelly has agreed to become the offensive coordinator of the Las Vegas Raiders. He leaves the Buckeyes after just one year. That puts Ohio State in a position to have to replace both coordinators and their offensive line coach just two weeks after winning a championship.

Kelly was never going to be the long-term solution at the offensive coordinator spot. He has always wanted to get back into the NFL, and he's already 61 years old. This is likely going to be his last shot to become an NFL coordinator and possibly get another head coaching job in the near future.

For Ryan Day, he is now put in a tough spot. Does he elevate Brian Hartline to OC and let him finally call plays? Or does he bring someone else in to do the job? Could he elevate Hartline but take over play-calling duties himself, just as he did for his first five years as head coach?

There are a lot of questions that need to be answered in the next few weeks. The Buckeyes have three major coaching hires they need to make. This one is going to be a big one.
