The Ohio State football program has been on a recruiting tear in the month of November. They have flipped several recruits since the month started for both the 2026 and 2027 recruiting classes. To this point, the Buckeyes now have the seventh-best recruiting class in the 2026 class.
With time running out to flip recruits for the 2026 class, the Ohio State Buckeyes have focused their efforts on landing 2027 recruits. They had four commits in the 2027 class heading into Saturday night, but they added to that total shortly before taking on UCLA.
Ohio State was able to land a commitment from four-star safety Eli Johnson. Johnson is from Cibolo, Texas, and is listed as the tenth-best safety in the country. He becomes the fifth member of the 2027 class. He chose Ohio State over a host of other schools, including TTUN, Texas, and Texas A&M.
Ohio State football team lands four-star safey recruit Eli Johnson
Johnson stands at 6'3 and 200 pounds, so he's a very big player to play at safety. His size allows him to come into the box in the running game and be rangy in the passing game. He is someone who certainly has potential once he gets some collegiate coaching.
Matt Guerrieri has done a good job with the safeties. Once Caleb Downs leaves this year to be a first-round pick, the Buckeyes are going to need someone to step up. Right now, they are just focused on winning back-to-back national championships.
This is some good news for Ohio State with just a few weeks left until Early Signing Day, even though Johnson is for next year's class. Once Early Signing Day has passed, Ryan Day and his staff will turn more of their attention to the 2027 recruiting class and building up the depth of that class.
This is how the Buckeyes plan to keep up their sustained success. Adding elite recruits at prime positions will keep them at the top of the mountain.
