The Ohio State football program decided to make some controversial changes to the gameday experience. Ross Bjork announced them prior to the Week 1 showdown with the Longhorns. They weren't all bad, but they certainly weren't all good, either.
The Caamp song that was played heading into the second quarter didn't get the crowd juiced at all. Having the fans earn Buckeyes was hokey, but ultimately harmless. Not having the band play Hang on Sloopy before the fourth quarter was awful, especially when they tried to have them play it after Texas was mounting a potential game-tying drive.
Ringing the Victory Bell before the game started sounds stupid, and it is, but it is also fairly harmless. Archie Griffin was the first person to take part in this new tradition in the Shoe. He was the perfect pick because he might be the most beloved player to ever play for the Buckeyes. Now, they have announced who will do it for Week 2.
Former Ohio State coach John Cooper will ring the Victory Bell prior to facing Grambling State
Former Ohio State Buckeyes coach John Cooper will be the person who rings the Victory Bell before they take on the Tigers. Cooper is one of the more controversial coaches in Ohio State history, as he is most known for his failure to beat Michigan. His record against TTUN was just 2-10-1.

Ironically, not beating Michigan is something that current coach Ryan Day struggles with. He just won a national championship, however. That's something that Cooper failed to do during his tenure leading the Ohio State football program. Now, he talks about the Buckeyes on the radio.
Cooper is a nice person and someone who loves the Buckeyes, even though he got fired from the team. He is now 88 years old and still loves going to games. Perhaps he should have rang the bell later in the season instead of being the second guy ever to take part in this new tradition.
Regardless, most Buckeye fans generally like Cooper as a person. He will get a very loud cheer when he is announced to the crowd at the Shoe when he is getting ready to do that. Cooper is happy that he is still embraced by the community in Columbus all of these years later.
Ohio State will take on Grambling State at 3:30 pm ET on Saturday afternoon in the Shoe.
