The Ohio State football program did a lot of work in the second week that the Transfer Portal was open. After losing 30+ guys to the portal, they replenished about half of those numbers from the portal. They did better than a lot of fans expected them to do.
Early on, it looked like Ross Bjork was sabotaging their efforts in the portal. Instead, Ryan Day was able to right the ship and bring in some solid players. While there are still a few players floating around in the portal, they are mostly done. Yet, they grabbed one more player on Wednesday.
One spot the Ohio State Buckeyes didn't address in the portal was the offensive line. They did that on Wednesday by picking up a former Dartmouth offensive lineman. The Buckeyes have now signed Vasean Washington out of the Transfer Portal for next season.
Ohio State football program adds Vasean Washington from the Transfer Portal
Washington is a native of Springfield, Ohio. This is his final year of eligibility, so this is an interesting place for him to play. He played in eight games for Dartmouth in 2024 and all 10 games for them in 2023. He will provide some depth for the Buckeyes in 2026.
It's highly unlikely that Washington sees any significant playing time next season. He will likely be a backup who will get in during blowouts early in the year. Other than that, he is on the roster for injury protection. It's a strange move for the Buckeyes, considering they could have added a real difference-maker earlier in the portal.
It's highly unlikely that the Buckeyes will add another significant contributor from the portal this offseason. There aren't many guys left who are good enough to see the field for Ohio State. Day will likely take this roster into Spring practice and see what he has.
