The Ohio State football program is busy preparing for a game in the College Football Playoff. They will play either Texas A&M or Miami in the Cotton Bowl. In the last few weeks, they have dealt with the fact that they are losing multiple coaches this cycle, including Brian Hartline.
Ryan Day has assembled a very coveted staff over the last couple of seasons. There's a reason why they are one of the four teams that have a bye week for the first round of the CFP. With that comes the fact that other programs are going to want to poach Ohio State's coaches.
The Buckeyes have lost two coaches on the offensive side of the ball already. Now, they are about to lose a coach on the defensive side of the ball, as well. The Ohio State Buckeyes are losing a defensive analyst who helped them all season long have one of the best units in the country.
Ohio State football team loses Tony Washington Jr. to Kentucky
Ohio State has lost Tony Washington Jr. to the Kentucky Wildcats. He has been hired to be their OLCB/DE line coach. He helped Larry Johnson with the defensive line this past season and will now get to lead his own unit. It's a good opportunity for him.
Of course, this is now the second assistant defensive line coach the Buckeyes have lost in the last couple of years. With Johnson in his mid-70s, the Buckeyes need to figure out a long-term plan at that spot with the staff. Johnson is likely done after this year or next year.
This isn't as big a loss as Hartline is, but the Buckeyes still have to make sure that they keep the bones of their staff together. At least they still have Matt Patricia as the defensive coordinator. They are going to try to hold onto him as long as they can.
